Each year there are and 4.5 million dogs in shelters awaiting their forever homes. For many of these dogs, their fate is determined solely by their appearance. In fact, “ugly” or unusual dogs stay in shelters 4 times longer than attractive dogs, which can be up to two years.
Adopt Ugly addressed this problem directly through an arresting combination of photography, statistics and tongue-in-cheek humor.
AdoptUgly found homes for more than 3/4 of all dogs (plus six cats and one bird) that participated in the event. The Bella Foundation, our partner, reported they typically only have that placement rate from a 3-day adoption event.
